Therapy for women
Counselling for Separation,
Divorce & Relationships

It’s obvious to you that your relationship is in trouble and you feel so alone trying to figure out what to do next.
Day after day you keep hoping that things will get better. Your spouse has been so angry, dismissive and distant. You’ve tried on your own to fix the problems between the two of you, but it has not helped. You’ve begged him to go to marriage & couples counselling with you, but he has refused.
You try to be strong for the kids and play it off like everything is OK. But honestly, you can’t understand why you seem to be the only one hurting in the relationship.
You feel alone and confused.

You know for sure that you don’t want things to stay this way and you’re afraid of what that might mean for you and the kids.
You wonder how you’ll survive financially if you split up.
And so here you are, unsure if your relationship is going to make it, wondering what you should do next.
Finding the right therapist is really important.
You can hardly imagine getting a divorce or separating after having been together for so many years. Divorce was definitely not something you imagined facing at this stage in your life.
Ending your relationship would put an end to the frosty coldness that exists between the two of you, but it would also put an and to so many of the things you had anticipated being a part of your life.
When you seek marriage & couple counselling at Restore. Renew. Revive. in Bedford, Nova Scotia
Seeking therapy for separation, divorce & troubled relationships will help you strengthen your own ability to cope while you are going through this very difficult time.
If your spouse/partner has already left or told you about their intention to separate, therapy will help you navigate this transition. Together, we can identify skills, strategies and resources that you need so that you can care well for yourself (and your kids) as you find your way through circumstances you never imagined having to deal with.
If you are wanting to improve your relationship but your partner is unwilling to attend marriage & couples counselling, individual therapy is the best option for you. Together we will identify ways you can seek to improve your relationship and your own well being even if your partner is not interested in joining you in marriage & couples counselling.
Therapy for Separation, Divorce & Troubled Relationships will help you to:
- Identify practical steps to help you deal with the challenges in your relationship.
- Get clarity on the way your behaviour impact your partner and find new ways to relate to them.
- Develop skills to navigate separation/divorce in the best possible way, even when it is not what you wanted.
- Identify resources that will be helpful for you (and your kids) as you face significant life changes.
- Learn new ways to care for yourself and manage your emotions.
Counselling for Separation, Divorce & Troubled Relationships
Counselling for separation, divorce & troubled relationships will help you learn to navigate challenges in your life and relationship in a new way. Sessions are tailored to your specific needs based on your family, relationship and values. Together you and I will work to help you care for yourself well and build a fulfilling life even in face of challenges.
Here is what to expect:
Free Consultation:
You can book a free 15-minute no-obligation call so we can chat more about working together.
It’s my hope that even before your first session you’ll have the sense that we can build a strong working relationship to help move you from feeling stuck to thriving.
I want to be sure my skills, experience, personality, office policies and hours are a good fit for you, otherwise, therapy will feel like something stressful you have to squeeze into your busy life, and who needs that?
Intake Session:
Our first session is 60 minutes long so that we can really get to know each other.
People are often really nervous to come to their first counselling session, so I want you know that it’s going to feel just like having a conversation with me.
We will talk about what has been happening with your relationship. We’ll get really clear about your goals for therapy. By the end of this session, we’ll have a plan for the way ahead and you’ll leave with some new things to try out between sessions.
Ongoing Counselling Sessions:
For the first 2-3 sessions I generally meet with women weekly so that we can build momentum in the right direction. You can expect each session to include talking about practical steps you can take to move in the right direction and learning new skills and strategies to take you there.
I want you to know that I’ll be asking you to test these things out between visits so that you’ll keep making progress.
Once you start feeling that you are coping well with the changes and transitions, we will spread out our visits to give you the chance to take the skills we’ve worked on together and test them out as you live your life.
On average, I see individuals for 10-20 sessions over a period of time. Of course, this depends on you, your situation and how quickly change starts happening. But this is something we will talk about together, because, ultimately, I want therapy to be something that adds to your life and doesn’t feel like one more stressful thing to add to your week.
