Therapy for Anxiety

You feel breathless.  On edge.
Like your stomach is tied in knots.

You struggle hard to quiet your mind. Which is tough because it often feels like it is going in a million different directions all at once. You’ve tried everything you can think of to get free from the grip of the anxiety that seems to be running your life, but nothing has worked.

You know you want to feel calm and in control, but when it comes to being able to shut your mind off and set aside all your worries, it seems impossible. It feels like you are drowning in waves of emotions and can’t get your feet under you.

Lately it seems like you are always right on the edge of freaking out.  Anxiety feels like it is always knocking at your door.

It’s true, you have been through a lot lately and under a ton of stress.  Just when you think you’ll be able to come up for air, the next hard thing happens.

But still, you know that you haven’t always been this overwhelmed by anxiety.

In the past, you were able to cope and keep yourself together.  You managed to push anxiety away and get on with ‘the show’.

But somewhere along the way you started resorting to Netflix binges, endless Facebook scrolling or scarfing back a bag of chips to deal with the storm inside of you.

You began to hide out at home, away from everything that brings on that awful feeling of anxiety.

And, now here you are, afraid that you are never going to enjoy your life again.

You’re convinced that you are never going to get back to the people, places and activities that once made you feel so alive.

You didn’t expect that you could feel so utterly helpless to push away the feelings of anxiety that take over your body without any notice.

And You certainly didn’t expect that anxiety would keep you from living the kind of life you’d always imagined.

The Anxiety Therapy Process

Counselling for Anxiety at Restore. Renew. Revive. in Bedford, Nova Scotia, will help you learn to get out from the grip of anxiety so that you can live a more full and meaningful life. Anxiety therapy is intended to help you feel more in control of your life even if those uneasy feelings are still along for the ride. Instead of anxiety driving, you actually get to decide the direction of the life.

Here is what to expect:

Free Consultation:

Book a free 15 minute no-obligation call so we can chat more about working together.

It’s my hope that even before your first session you’ll be confident that we can work well together. And, if I’m not the right person for you, you can expect that I will point you in the right direction, so you can get the help you need.

I want you to be able to ask any questions you have about therapy with me, and anything else on your mind so you’ll know we’ll be a good fit so that coming to therapy in my Bedford office doesn’t feel as stressful.

First Session:

Our first session is 60 minutes long so that we can really get to know each other.

People are often really nervous to come to their first counselling session, so I want you know that it’s going to feel just like having a conversation with me.

We will talk about what’s been going on and how anxiety has been getting in the way. We’ll get really clear about your goals for therapy. By the end of this session, we’ll have a plan for the way ahead and you’ll leave with some new things to try out between sessions.

Ongoing Counselling Sessions:

For the first 2-3 sessions, I generally meet with people weekly so that we can build momentum in the right direction. At these sessions, I will check in with you to see how things have been going between sessions. You can expect each session to include talking about practical steps you can take to move in the right direction and learning new skills and strategies to get you there.

You can expect that I’ll be asking you to test these things out between visits so that you’ll be making progress between each time we see each other. Once you start feeling more confident about managing your anxiety, we will spread out our visits to give you the chance to take the skills we’ve worked on together and test them out as you live your life.

On average, I see individuals for 10-20 sessions over a period of time. Of course, this depends on you, your situation and how quickly change starts happening. But this is something we will talk about together because, ultimately, I want therapy to be something that adds to your life and doesn’t feel like one more stressful thing to add to your week.

  • You are pretty sure you don’t have what it takes to cope with the demands that are placed on you
  • You always feel like you have a knot in your stomach and can’t quite place where your uneasy feelings come from
What Does Anxiety Therapy Cost?

My initial session fee is $160 and each session after is 160.

My services are covered by most insurance plans & employee assistance plans.  I also offer a limited number of reduced fee spots through Open Path Collective.

I am only able to directly bill certain insurance plans with Blue Cross. I will give you a detailed bill for you to submit to your plan or to keep for tax purposes.

I recommend you check your plan specifics before scheduling a session.

There are times when anxiety therapy with me might not be the best fit:

  • You have been given the diagnosis of an eating disorder and have not received treatment for this
  • You are actively suicidal or self- harming to cope
  • You want a diagnosis of a condition or other workplace evaluations (ie. short term disability)
